R. Zumar , Artist

Welcome to The Becomings of a Master

I’m the artist R.Zumar and I’m not a prison artist but an artist who discovered art in prison. I taught myself how to draw while in prison and really took interest to study art within the last three years.

I don’t say The Becomings of a Master because I believe I’m a master artist, but that here you will see the progress in my journey of becoming one.

I would like to thank you for visiting my site and want you to know that your support is greatly appreciated in whatever compacity that may be.

The art you will see here is versatile and all have meaning to them. You will see portraiture and figurative art, expressionism and realism. Just a broad variety of art as my studies persist.
There will be a weekly blog about my life and my work. Expressing my thoughts and feelings as we drive down this adventurous road of discovery.

Since then I’ve had work displayed in the Lincoln Cottage through JAC (The Justice Arts Coalition), interviewed by them for their national convening and have art up on their website in my portfolio as well. I was featured in an article of the Arizona Daily Sun, accepted in an international contest of fine art in Germany called Art&Prison, and done an illustration for the Pen Prison Writings 2020 Anthology. I have also recently completed a commission of the Martinsville 7 for the Highlander Research and Education Center. These are my accomplishments within the last year or so and there will be many more to come.
